History

By the time Chan Hueng returned home from Bak-Pai Mountain, his Kung Fu achievement was quite excellent and his skill began to gain admiration.

As Chan Hueng's art brought together the merits of his three instructors as well as his own discoveries and experiences, he had already established a new style of martial art that was unique and complete.

In order to popularize his new art and make it easier to describe, Chan Hueng called it “Choy Lee Fut”.

Why did he choose that name? The main reason was that Chan-Hueng wanted to express his respect and gratitude towards his instructors, and this was exactly the spirit of “respecting the teacher”, which was a spirit always emphasized in Chinese Kung Fu.

Chan chose the surnames of his first and second teacher, “Choy” and “Lee”, respectively, as the first two words; Since his third teacher, “Green Grass Monk” had abandoned his original name due to his devotion to the monastery, Chan used the word “Buddha” “which was the religion the Monk worshiped” and placed it as the third word of his name. your art. The three words, “Choy”, “Lee” and “Fat, being joined together, became the most popular Chinese Kung Fu among students.

More than a century ago, a young man named Chan Hueng who loved the martial art already had a solid foundation in Kung Fu under the patient guidance of a Shaolin monk, Choy-Fok. Then Choy-Fok introduced him to a famous martial artist named Lee Yau-Shan. Chan-Hueng then followed him to learn Lay-Kar Kung Fu, which is known for its fierce fighting and fast movement.

For eight years, Chang-Hueng learned the fundamentals of this martial art.

Then, as Choy-Fok and Lee Yau-Shan were pleased with his progress and achievement, they were open-minded to encourage him to go a long way to Bak-Pai Mountain, which was in central China, so that he could follow a monk named “Green Grass Monk” to learn the sophisticated “Buddhist Pal Style” and its cunning and powerful palm strike.

After begging hard for some time, Chang Hueng was accepted by the “Green Grass Monk” and under the monk's instruction, Chan acquired achievements in the martial art.
